The South Korean company GM Daewoo developed the concept of a crossover SUV Chevrolet Captiva. GM Daewoo is the subsidiary of General Motors and was introduced in 2006 and was sold under Chevrolet brand. The Captiva uses the GM Theta platform, derived from the Chevrolet S3X concept car of 2004. Chevrolet Captiva was sold as Daewoo Winstorm in South Korea and as Holden Captiva in Australia. The first generation Captiva, launched in 2006 was designated C100 by Daewoo and CG in Holden's terminology. Styling of the Captiva was inspired by the 2004 Chevrolet S3X concept car and premiered at 2004 Paris Motor Show.

Chevrolet Captiva SUV is a unique mix of style, technology and luxury. IT has electrically-controlled variable geometry turbocharger which keeps the revs perfect at any speeds on the highway as well as within city limits. The Captiva is available in 3 diesel variants: LT, LTZ and Xtreme. The Captiva has a good balance of looks and performance which are bold and sophisticated looking. The exterior of Chevrolet Captiva is dominated by large 6-spoke alloy wheels with bold wheel-arches and tubeless tyres. It features perfectly placed cylindrical prism type headlamps, LED type turn signal lamps, turn signal repeaters integrated in the door mirrors and pull-out type chrome door handles. In Captiva, the production version of the S3X, both five or seven-seat configurations are available. Its standard safety features include: anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters, and driver and front passenger airbags. The Chevrolet Captiva was given a four out of five start crash rating in crash safety tests conducted by Euro NCAP. The interiors of Captiva have lots of room for improvement though it leaves adequate room for the passengers.

It Offers a decent fuel economy in both the petrol and the diesel variants and performs good enough to maintain its position as an SUV. GM will release a revised Captiva range in the second quarter of 2011. This face lifted Captiva will feature a new front fascia reminiscent to that of the Chevrolet Aveo (T300). Other differences comprise LED turn signals on the door-mounted mirrors, redesigned wheels and revised side air vents. It will also feature a retuned suspension, four new engines and two new transmissions. The Chevrolet Captiva was launched in Vietnam during 2006 and in Australia and New Zealand have sold the Chevrolet Captiva under the Holden Captiva name since November 2006.
