Kia Motors is a South Korean motor company and a second largest automobile manufacturer in Korea, having sold over 1.6 million cars in 2009. The word Kia derives from Korean words which means "to arise to the world from Asia". Kia was founded on June 9, 1944 as a manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycle parts and has operated as one of the country's Chaebols since. In 1952, Kia changed its name from Kyungsung Precision Industry, and started making motorcycles, trucks and cars by 1974. Kia has its headquarters in Seoul, and the company is partly owned by the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group. Since August 21, 2009, Hyoung-Keun (Hank) Lee leads the company's global operations. North American and European operations are operated by its subsidiaries Kia Motors America and Kia Motors Europe respectively. Kia has been observing the market and has identified that design is its "core future growth engine" which lead to the hiring of Peter Schreyer in 2006 as Chief Design Officer.

Kia Motors, which is a part of the Hyundai group, is also eyeing the Indian market after its success in other places. This news was first given by Auto car India, and now, in a recent report in a South Korean daily, Chosun Ilbo, the company has said that it wants to build a plant in India to produce 300,000 vehicles a year starting from 2012. Kia’s line up includes models such as the Picanto, Sorento, Sportage, Ceed and Forte. Much like its sister company Hyundai, Kia is in the midst of a major product overhaul, by the launches of the Soul, Forte, Sorento, Sportage and Optima all within the past few years.

The next major product within the Kia line is the B-segment Rio. Kia had a strong 2010 and this Korean automaker hopes that momentum and success is continued right through 2011. No doubt, that the all-new 2011 Kia Optima is one vehicle that will be a feather in the cap for the brand Kia and can keep up its recent success. No surprise, then, that Kia is highlighting its midsize sedan. A 60 sec commercial also entitled "One Epic Ride," features the 2011 Optima "travelling through time and space." It shows that the car becomes an object of desire for cops, aliens, an international villain and even the Greek god Poseidon. There are huge hopes for Kia.
