Lotus Car

Lotus cars are known for their sports and racing events and is an automotive company founded in 1952. Lotus is a private limited company manufactured by British manufacturers and founded by Colin Chapman. Lotus builds designs and production automobiles with fine handling features. Lotus is currently owned by Proton who also owned Buggati in 1994 after its bankruptcy. Lotus has its head quarters at Hethel, Norfolk in England. Colin was an engineer who formed Lotus Engineering company which spilt in team lotus in 1954 and was active and competitive in Formula One racing from the year 1958 to 1994.

Lotus car limited and Lotus component limited formed a new Lotus Group of companies in 1959 which aimed at the production of road cars and customer competition cars. Till 1982 the Lotus made thousands of successful racing and road cars and also won the Formula One Championship seven times and in 1986 the company was purchased by General Motors with major share of Malaysian company. Lotus also helped in the research and development of engineering technology and also helped the other car manufacturers. Lotus designed the 4-cylinder Ecotec engine which in found in many brand models of GM. The Elise and Exige models of Lotus use 1.8L VVT-i 14 which is a very advanced form of engineering. In 1958 Lotus Formula One car won the Grand Pix but the main success was the Lotus 25 which won the World First Constructors Championship in 1963. Lotus introduced the integration of engine and transaxle as chassis components making the mid engined layout a success. Lotus added wings and shaped the undersurface of the Formula One cars for the creation of down force and to move radiators to the sides in the car to aid in aerodynamic performance, and inventing active suspension. Team Lotus later emerged as the Classic team Lotus and continued to make F1 cars and preserve its prestige.

The latest Lotus models are Lotus Elise, Lotus Evora, Lotus Exige and Lotus 2-Eleven. In 2010 Paris Motorshow Lotus introduced its new models which are to be made in the coming years which are the Lotus Spirit, Lotus Elan, Lotus Elite, Lotus Elise and Lotus Eterne. Lotus announced the creation of Lotus Renault GP which will be contested in Formula One World Championship as it has a little sponsorship with the team. Lotus is known for its engineering innovations and composite body style which are spawned with several racing variants for better performance of the cars in the racing events.
