Maserati Car

Maserati is a subsidiary company of Italian car company Fiat S.p.A which was founded in 1914 in Bologna and have its head quarter at Modena in Italy. Maserati is an Italian manufacturer automotive company with a logo trident and has become the part of sports car Alfa Romeo but was initially part of Ferrari S.p.A. Maserati made racing cars with 4, 6, 8 and 16 cylinders and the first Maserati won Targa Florio in 1926. Maserati was owned by Maserati brothers and later they sold it to Adolfo Orsi family in 1940 shifted the head quarter to their hometown. Even after the sale of Maserati to Orsi the racing success continued and Maserati brothers played their engineering roles with the company. Maserati faced competition with German giants like the Auto union and Mercedes and won twice in 1939 and 1940.

Maserati 8CTF was the only Italian car to win the Indianpolis 500. During the war time Maserati produced components for Italian war and stopped making car but after the end of war returned back to car making and the Maserati A6 series became very popular. Many key people including engineers joined the Maserati like Alberto Massimino, Giulio Alfieri, Vittorio Bellentani with the objective of producing best engines and chassis for success in car racing. Several projects were introduced for making models like 4CLT, A6 series, 8CLT and A6GCM. Juan-Manuel Fangio the Argentina racing driver won the world championship in 1957 in the Maserati 250F and other racing projects were 200S, 300S, 350S, 450S were success in 1950s race.

Maserati started focusing on the road cars and built 6 cylinder 3500 2+2 coupe for small cars volume V8 powered 5000. Maserati introduced Vignale bodied Sebring in 1962 and Mistral coupe in 1963 and spider in 1964. Maserati was taken over by French company Citoen and new models were launched and manufactured in large numbers. Maserati utilised expertise engines and incorporated citoen technology in hydraulics. New models of Maserati include Maserati Bora, Maserati Merak and Maserati Khamsin in 1971 which shared some parts with Citoen SM. The latest Maserati models are Maserati Gran Turismo and Maserati Quattroporte.

Maserati has its ownership under Fiat, Ferrari and later with Alfa Romeo where Maserati sold 2006 cars in United states and made a profit after 17 years. Maserati also made a four door sporting luxury four door sedan which was a convertible version of Maserati GranTurismo introduced in 2009.
