Opel Car

Opel began its operations in 1863, is an automotive company and started producing cars in 1899. Opel is a German manufacturer company founded by Adam Opel. Opel has its head quarter at Adam Opel Haus, Russelsheim in Germany and was acquired by General Motors in 1929 with the General Motors having 80% controlling stake in the German company which was later made to 100% in 1931. Opel's success was based in perfectly customized sewing machines at the beginning. Opel began to sell high-wheel bicycles, also known as penny-farthings in 1886. In 1895, Opel was the leader of sewing and bicycle business.

The first Opel cars were produced in 1899 after entering into a partnership with Friedrich Lutzmann who had been working on automobile designs for some time. Opel produced an Opel4/8 hp model, known as the Doctor's Car in 1909. Its reliability and toughness were greatly appreciated by physicians, who drove a lot to see their patients, when hard-surfaced roads were still rare. The Doctor's Car sold for only 3,950 marks, about half as much as the luxury models of its day. By 1914, Opel had become the largest German manufacturer of motor vehicles in the world. Opel laid an assembly line to produce a new open two-seater called the Laubfrosch. Opel led the way for motorized transportation to become not just for the rich, but a reliable way for people of all classes to travel. The Regent was Opel's first eight-cylinder car was offered. The RAK 1 and RAK 2 rocket-propelled cars made sensational record-breaking sales in the market. Opel produced the first mass-production vehicle with a self-supporting all steel body which was named as Olympia. Olympia was of small weight and its aerodynamics came an improvement in both performance and fuel consumption.

Opel receives a patent for it which is considered one of the most important innovations in automotive history. Opel's model Kapitän had a 2.5 L six-cylinder engine, all-steel body, front independent suspension, hydraulic shock absorbers, hot-water heating w/electric blower and central speedometer which made it extremely successful. The latest Opel models are Opel Astra 1.7 TD, Opel Astra AD, Opel Astra Advantage Diesel and Petrol, Opel Astra 1.6, Opel Astra Corsa 1.4GLS, Opel Corsa 1.4 GSI and Opel Corsa 1.6 GLS. Opel sold over 1,18 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in 2011, achieving a market share of 6.4%. In Germany, Opel regained the number two position and it offers International and Diplomat Sales to customers in international organizations, military, and diplomatic service.
