Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Private Limited, formerly known as the Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), is an Indian automobile company based in Bangalore, involved in manufacture and design of environment-friendly and cost-effective electric vehicles. The Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) was founded in 1994 by Sudarshan Maini, chairman of the Maini Group of Bangalore as a joint venture with Amerigon Electric Vehicle Technologies. It is one of the first companies to introduce electric vehicles worldwide.

The company's earned laurels for its flagship EV REVAi which is the world's bestselling electric vehicle so far. During September 2009, RECC and General Motors India were to finalise talks about a joint venture to electrify Chevrolet’s cars in India. But however, this failed to materialise, since the Mahindra Group finally took over Reva. RECC produced two versions of the REVAi, an urban electric micro-car. REVAi, equipped with lead-acid batteries and REVA L-ion, equipped with Lithium-ion batteries. REVA's models offer a top speed of 65 kmph and a range of 80 Km currently, thus are ideally suited for today's urban areas where the need for fuel is increasingly polluting the environment.

During the start of year 2000 several automakers were trying to develop cars which are cost effective and eco-friendly but eventually in 2001 RECC launched its model in Bangalore, and it became world's first mass produced electric car which was called REVA. In the year 1994, Reva was India's first zero polluting Electric Vehicle for city mobility with the assistance of Maini group which produced battery operated materials. Reva presented its future models Reva NXR and Reva NXG. Reva and General Motors India had declared a technical collaboration to develop affordable EV for the Indian market.

As a result of this General Motors India announced an electric version of their hatchback spark which was named e-Spark and Reva was to provide battery technology for it. REVA plans to release 2 models the NXR and NXG with its patented innovative technology called REVive which is essentially a failsafe that serves as a back-up battery. India's automotive and computer industries have come up with remarkable synergy in the Reva NXG. Apart from looking good, this little car is Linux equipped and Internet enabled, in a much cleverer way than European or US cars.
